This is not just another article about how important our digital legacy /digital inheritance is and how difficult it is to be sure that when, for whatever reason, we are unable to take care of it, it will end up in the right hands - the ones we ourselves have chosen. Not being able to take care of it doesn't necessarily mean no longer being here: it could also simply mean being unavailable for a long time, e.g. for work reasons (think of a photojournalist in a country at war) or for some other reasons.
In fact, if you are here and you are reading this, you already know how important digital inheritance is. Think about emails, remote disks, your crypto wallet, the services you’ve used online, the clouds with your photos and videos, the notes outlining a winning project or a unique idea. We could make an endless list, and the more we think about it, the more things come to mind.
Now, since you know how important your digital legacy is, you’ve come to the right place to ensure you can pass it on to whoever you want! DayAfterNow.com offers you the possibility of choosing who you want to pass your digital legacy to, and also choosing how to do it.
The first step is to register.
You are not obliged to subscribe right away: you can decide to use the trial period for three months!
So, you can try the service out and become even more confident about the future of your digital inheritance!
To make sure that your digital inheritance is passed on to whoever you want, you will have to compose an email in which you list all your passwords, links and suchlike - in other words, the keys to the world of your digital inheritance. Or, if you prefer not to write these details down, you can use the email to give instructions to the recipient as to where all the passwords are located, your crypto wallets...your whole world. For example, you can tell him or her to “go down to the cellar, go to a certain spot and open Box X”…
Who should you address this email to? To the person you have chosen and trust…
And then?
Be careful, once you compose this email, it will not go away immediately. It will remain in the system…and only when you tell us, it will be sent! Now you may be rightly wondering: “How can I tell them...if I can't or if I’m prevented?”
And here lies the true value of what DayAfterNow.com offers you!
Together with the email, you will also have to compose the so-called verification parameters by choosing the frequency (and here you can indulge yourself since we have many alternatives) of the checks that we will be sending you - and as long as you respond to our checks, your email will remain "dormant"!
Let's take an example:
* you have prepared the email, indicating the recipient;
* you have decided that every Monday at 7.00 pm you will receive a check;
* the checks will reach you by default by email and, if you decide to download the app or enter your mobile number, also via app and via your mobile with a text message;
* when you have received the verification, just press the "verify" button and this will tell our system that the email you have prepared so carefully must not be sent!
* everything will continue in this way until you answer the checks...
So, at this point you may be wondering: “When will my email go out?” …
… Only when you don't respond to the verification.
So in the example we gave above, if the verification arrived on Monday and you didn't respond to it until the following Monday... at that moment the email would be sent - unless you entered the "countdown period”.
What is this “countdown period”? It is a number of days (you decide the number) during which the system remains on standby. When that period ends, and if you have still not responded, your email containing the details of your digital inheritance will be sent to your trusted recipient!
We have provided the countdown option in order to prevent emails from being sent just because one of our customers may have forgotten to respond to the check. And then when he/she receives an email specifying that the countdown has started, he/she is reminded to take action.
So, going back to the example above:
* I receive a check on Monday at 7.00 pm and I don't respond because at that moment I couldn’t, and I forget to do so;
* I have foreseen a countdown period of 3 days;
* on the following Monday at 7.00 pm I will receive an email specifying that the countdown period is beginning;
* so if I now respond to the verification within 3 days, the system will continue to send me verification emails every Monday;
* if I don't reply, at the end of the 3 day period (in this example, on Friday) your email will be sent.

* you can avoid writing any data in the email: just give the recipient instructions as to where he/she can find your precious information…
* when registering we do not ask you for personal data other than that necessary to provide the service (in fact this means only the email address which we need to send you verifications and/or your mobile number to receive them via text message)... we don't even need your first and last name - just a nickname is enough for us.
* all your data is encrypted
* the subscription process takes place via banking circuits, and we have no visibility.
